The Boys and Girls Club began as a boxing club in 1963. Young men came who did not necessarily want to box but wanted something to do. The club welcomed everyone and soon expanded their activities. The club was incorporated as a member of the national Boys & Girls Club of America in 1965. The current club house, located at 330 W. Las Cruces Ave. was donated by E.J. Stern in 1965.
The Boys and Girls Club of Las Cruces is an activity club for boys and girls between the ages of 6 to 18. The original club was called the Boys Club of Las Cruces. We are not sure when girls first attended the club but the name of the club was changed following the name change of the national organization in 1991. The local club is managed by a volunteer board of directors and a professional staff led by our Chief Professional Officer. Our current CPO is Mr. Clint Ziehl.
The club operates after school programs during the school year and
all-day programs during the summer. After school programs are offered
at the main clubhouse on Las Cruces Avenue, Mesilla Park Elementary
School, and Cesar Chavez Elementary School. Transportation is offered
from 15 local schools to the three club locations. Our programs
include:
Our staff are youth development professionals, who serve our kids as positive role models and mentors. We provide a safe place to learn and grow; ongoing relationships with caring, adult professionals; life-enhancing programs and character development experiences; hope and opportunity.
